A growing issue I’m seeing in the indie publishing world is the rise of what I call “Hack Publishing”.
It’s an unfortunate side effect of the Writing to Market tactic where you look at what is selling and write a book in that genre. Where it goes off the rails is when you find books (and there are plenty of them) whose contents are essentially variations of existing properties whether it be Twilight, Divergent, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter etc. with a few characters switched around or genders changed but basically the same story arc told in those titles.
This is an editorial video of a new indie author who has seen other writers frustrated with this tactic and readers who are tired of the Twilight rip offs.
